An Exercise ECG looks at the electrical activity of your heart before, during and after exercise. Exercise ECG are handy in evaluating symptoms (especially chest pain), determining the effectiveness of your heart medication and your progress latter angioplasty bypass surgery. You will be required to remain in the practice for at minimum 15 minutes behind the test to ensure that you have fully recovered from the exercise and are experiencing no symptoms. The only difference is that an echo assessment of the heart muscle will be undertaken in conjunction with exercising and ECG monitoring. Instead of exercising on a bicycle the heart is exercised’ through the infusion of a medication called Dobutamine. An EchoDoppler is an ultrasound assessment of the heart. This test requires an ultrasound probe to be placed on your chest. From those images, a detailed assessment of your heart valves, heart muscle and blood flow is performed. A 24 hour assessment gives a better indication of your blood pressure than impartial one or two readings in the office. A blood pressure cuff is placed on your arm and connected to a little recorder that’s fitted to a belt around your waist. An ECG with report (electrocardiogram) is a quick and plain test that assesses the electrical activity of the heart. The complete cardiac risk assessment procedure takes up to 60 minutes. This scanning technique is around 10 times more powerful a predictor of coronary disease than cholesterol testing.
